Monster/Module Conversions

If you’re looking to convert monsters/modules from the original fantasy roleplaying game up through its basic and first editions to use with THE SECRET FIRE, you can employ the following quick and dirty guidelines either prior to or during play:

Level = HD.

Dodge: 10 – AC.  So, 10 – 10 = 0 Dodge; 10 – 0 = 10 Dodge; 10 – –10 = 20 Dodge.  Minimum Dodge = 0, Max = 20. So, a creature with an AC of 4 has a Dodge of 6 (10 – 4) in TSF.

Defenses: If the monster has stats listed (usually only NPCs), base each Defense Score on the appropriate ability score modifier (Str, Int, etc.) and add half the monster’s HD. Otherwise, divide the monster’s HD in half and roll 1d6 (1-3 = -2, 4-6 = +2).  Minimum of 0.

Attack Bonus: Same.

Damage Roll: Double damage dice; e.g. 1d6 + 1 becomes 2d6 + 2.

Stamina Points: All characters/monsters start with 2 Stamina Points at each Wound Level.  Add the NPC’s/monster’s Health (Con) adjustment. Add the Calling adjustment (1 for Wizards, 2 for Holy-Men and Thieves, and 3 for Warriors).  Most monsters fall into the Warrior category.
